Simcoe Contemporary Dancers receives Government of Canada support through My Main StreetCommunity Activator Placemaking Program

Simcoe Contemporary Dancers (SCD) is pleased to announce that Dusk Dances Barrie was selected for the My Main Street Community Activator program and has received $25,000 to support this family-friendly outdoor dance festival, which animate Lampman Lane Park in Barrie!

SCD’s Executive Director, Chrissy Baxter said, “Simcoe Contemporary Dancers is so honoured to have been able to present Dusk Dances Barrie annually since 2017. With this support, we can make this years event bigger and better than ever and we couldn’t be more grateful. ”Through the Government of Canada’s My Main Street Community Activator, delivered by the Canadian Urban Institute (CUI), the Lampman Lane community in Barrie will enjoy a more
vibrant neighbourhood setting that will draw visitors and increase foot traffic to the area throughout the run of the festival. Simcoe Contemporary Dancers is supported by My Main Street—a two-year, $23.25-million investment by the Government of Canada through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), delivered by CUI and the Economic Developers Council of Ontario (EDCO).

The Honourable Helena Jaczek, Minister responsible for FedDev Ontario said, “Our government is committed to helping communities bring their main streets back to life. My Main Street is providing vital support to projects that will reanimate neighbourhoods through installations, events and activities that are inclusive, innovative and engaging to create jobs and drive economic growth for local economies.”

Dusk Dances Barrie will be held at Lampman Lane Park in Barrie this July 14-17. Nightly dance workshops begin at 6:45 pm followed by live music by Joe Adamick before the dance performances begin at 7:30 pm! Tickets are by donation and pay-what-you-can. Don’t miss out on the most magical event of the summer! This annual festival is an exciting opportunity for residents of Barrie and beyond to come together to share an evening of live performance in the
lovely summer weather!

Simcoe Contemporary Dancers is a not-for-profit professional company serving the region of Simcoe County. We exist to encourage and showcase the development of local professional contemporary dance. We come together to raise the visibility of contemporary dance, create awareness, build educational opportunities, and reach out to our public to share our love of our art form.

Dusk Dances Barrie is an outdoor dance festival that brings dance to local parks. As dusk descends, a theatrical host leads the audience to an array of unique dance pieces that unfold in different areas of the park. There are also nightly free dance workshops and live music! Dusk Dances Barrie is presented by Simcoe Contemporary Dancers as a licensee of Dusk Dances Inc.
