My Moves Choreographic Workshop Series
Simcoe Contemporary Dancers is proud to present an opportunity to regional dance artists (18+) looking to explore and deepen their choreographic knowledge.
Through facilitators Jaqui Brown, Sarah Lochhead, Aliyah Beckles, and Kassandra Chiaromonte, participants will explore different choreographic topics to help enhance their creative process.
Laid out over four 6-hour sessions, participants are invited to play in a supportive and collaborative environment.
Sessions will take place on the following Saturdays from 10:00 AM – 4:45 PM at Studio Five, 40 Bell Farm Rd Unit 4, Barrie, ON, Canada, Ontario

All sessions will begin with a contemporary technique class and proceed into an exploration session of a different choreographic topic each week. At the end of each day there will be time to share and receive feedback from facilitators and fellow participants.
All participants will also have a chance to present a work-in-progress developed in these sessions at a later date in SCD’s 2026/2027 season.

WEEK 1 – Jaqui (October 17th)
- Starting points for generating movement
- Exploring improvisation prompts and tasks
- Contact Work – exploring relationships and the mechanics of sharing weight / lifts
WEEK 2 – Kas (October 24th)
- Seen and Heard – exploring accompaniment choices
- Journaling
WEEK 3 – Sarah (November 7th)
- “World Building” – looking at outside resources for inspiration
- Playing in Space – Levels, Effort, Shape, Space
WEEK 4 – Aliyah (November 14th)
- Pulling Apart – retrograde, accumulation, canon, and repetition
- Structure and transitions
Investment: $226 (inclusive of tax) for all 4 sessions
