DESCRIPTION:Simcoe Contemporary Dancers is thrilled to present a contemporary floorwork workshop with Kylie Thompson! \nKylie’s class moves swiftly and aims to take the body into a state of deep release in conversation with virtuosic expansion.  We’ll move through lots of ways in and out of the floor\, some improvisational tasks and phrase work that challenges the brain and body!  Bring your knee pads and clothing that offers good coverage.\n\n  \nREGISTER HERE! \nWorkshop Rate: $30 (inclusive of HST) \n*Payment can be accepted via e-transfer to simcoecontemporarydancers@gmail.com\, cash day of (exact change only)\, or via PayPal. \n\nInstructor Bio:\nKylie Thompson (she/her) is a contemporary Dance Artist and photographer residing in Toronto\, Canada.  She holds an honours degree in Kinesiology from McMaster University. Some of her stage and screen performance credits include; Hanna Kiel\, Gadfly Dance Company\, Finger Eleven\, Kiesza\, Martin Huss\, Classified\, Jenn Edwards\, Patricia Allison\, Valence Movement and more.   She is an accomplished choreographer and media artist\, and operates independently under her company Kylie Thompson Creative (@kyliethompsoncreative). Her work has been presented at Dance: Made in Canada\, Danceworks\, Toronto Fringe\, TIFF programming\, New Blue Festival\, The Garage\, The Canadian National Exhibition\, Fresh Blood\, Dance Matters and Toronto Original Choreographer’s Ball.  She has shared knowledge with everyone from 3 year-olds to professional dancers\, with thousands of hours of teaching experience in contemporary forms\, specialising in contemporary floorwork.  She served on the board for the Canadian Alliance of Dance Artists-East Chapter from 2017-2021.  Besides dance and photography\, she loves her plants\, travelling\, interior design\, and cooking.\n\nREGISTER HERE!

SUMMARY:Discover\, Draw\, Dance
DESCRIPTION:Simcoe Contemporary Dancers (SCD) is hosting a two-hour dance and art workshop called Discover\, Draw\, Dance. This workshop is centred on creating a positive and accessible dance and creation experience. \nDiscover\, Draw\, Dance is open to all ages\, levels and abilities and will consist of: \n– a 30-minute visual art experience where participants will create there own unique artwork inspired by the “Seeds to Sow” art exhibition at the Lion’s Pavilion. \n– a movement warm-up where we will prime our bodies to dance. \n– Using the participants artwork and the Seeds to Sow artwork at Lion’s Pavilion\, SCD will lead participants in a movement creation experience where we will create our own movement that will then be incorporated into a unique choreography! \nThis workshop is open to everyone of all ages and abilities and it is perfect for families to participate in together! During the movement components of this workshop\, our focus will be on exploring elements of dance such as space\, time\, energy\, weight and dynamics and learning movement skills through imagination and art\, all with the goal of developing each participant’s expressiveness through movement! \nThis activity is funded by the City of Barrie for Culture Days 2024.

DESCRIPTION:Auditions for SCD’s 2024-2025 dance season will be held at Moving Art in Barrie from 7:00 to 8:30 PM on Wednesday\, August 7\, 2024! We are holding auditions for both professional company members and apprentices (14+). Register here. \nSCD encourages individuals from equity-deserving groups\, including those from diverse cultural backgrounds\, LGBTQ2S+ communities\, and persons with disabilities\, to audition and share their unique voices. We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment and welcome performers of all abilities and experiences \nWe ask that you please arrive at least 15 minutes ahead of the audition start time to warm-up and complete our participation waiver and image release forms. \nThe weekly time commitment for both professional company members and apprentices is approximately 3 hours per week. Weekly company class runs from 10:30-11:30 on Sundays from September to June. Attendance at weekly class is required. Rehearsals may follow from 11:30-1:30 depending on casting. She holds a BFA in Performance Dance from Toronto Metropolitan University and has worked with artists including Michael Caldwell (Dusk Dances Tour 2022) and Colleen Snell (Frog in Hand) in her professional career. She was also the Associate Producer and Choreographer for TOES FOR DANCE and is the Producer of Carnival of the Arts: a site-specific dance festival in Markham. Additionally\, Zoe has performed for festivals including Fall For Dance North (2020\, 2021) and Festival Quartiers Danses (2023). \nAs a choreographer\, Zoe’s goal is to create something powerful and emotionally gratifying for both dancers and audience members to enjoy. She was awarded the Lipson Family Endowment Award for the most promising emerging choreographer. Zoe was also the recipient of the Performance Dance: Highest CGPA award and the Orly Watkin Dance Award from Toronto Metropolitan University. Additionally\, her work “I Woke Up” was selected to be featured internationally and locally in Ryerson Choreographic Film Festival\, Bloom Festival\, the fifth edition of Artists For Peace\, and in Lisbon Dance Platform. She was most recently commissioned to create a work for the students of the Arts Unionville Dance program and is gearing up to produce and choreograph a full-length dance show in Markham\, premiering at the end of August 2024. \nFor more about Zoe and her work\, visit www.zoekwan.ca \nRegister Today!

SUMMARY:Movement Creation Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join Chrissy Baxter and Dance Together Project for a Movement Creation Workshop where we will create a one-of-a-kind dance piece together! This workshop will consist of a general movement warm-up\, followed by a brief conversation around the topic of nature and summer. With this topic in mind\, Chrissy will then lead participants through a series of improvisation activities\, movement games\, and setting of choreography based on movement we have created collaboratively. This workshop is a great opportunity to explore contemporary dance and create a unique dance collaboratively with our community! Open to all ages and abilities and great for families. \nArtist Bio: \nGrowing up in Upstate New York on the shores of Lake Ontario\, Chrissy has danced for as long as she can remember. She began her serious training at LCDA in Oswego\, NY\, fostering a deep love for movement and an appreciation of the creative process. Chrissy earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Modern Dance from SUNY Brockport under the direction of Bill Evans and Maura Keefe\, graduating Magna Cum Laude. Chrissy has worked with notable choreographers such as Mariah Maloney\, Maxine Heppner\, Mairéad Filgate\, Sarah Lochhead and Susan Kendal. SUMMARY:2023/2024 Company Auditions
DESCRIPTION:Annual SCD auditions will be held at Moving Art in Barrie from 7:00 to 8:30 PM on Friday\, August 25\, 2023. \nPlease arrive 15 minutes ahead of audition start time to warm-up and complete the participation waiver and image release forms. \nWe are holding auditions for both company members and apprentices (14+). Time commitment is approximately 3 hours per week. \n\nWeekly company class runs from 10:30-11:30 on Sundays from September to June. Attendance at weekly class is required. Rehearsals may follow from 11:30-1:30 depending on casting.\n\nWeekly time commitment may increase during performance weeks.

SUMMARY:Alayna Kellett Guest Workshops
DESCRIPTION:Simcoe Contemporary Dancers in partnership with Studio House Barrie is proud to present a guest workshop series with Alayna Kellett! \nREGISTER HERE! \n11 am – 1 pm – Contemporary Ballet \nThe contemporary ballet class will integrate two different styles of dance\, classical ballet and modern dance. While we explore the movements of ballet\, we will have moments of focusing on technique\, breath work and being able to dance with musicality. There will be positions on the ballet bar\, being placed in the center floor along with standing and seated movements and exploring movements that go into and across the floor. This class will finish with a piece of choreography that is potentially exerted from one of Alayna’s working show pieces. It is recommended to have at least 3 years of ballet and/or contemporary  dance experience but if you do not\, please reach out to discuss your options. \n2 pm – 4 pm – Contemporary \nThe contemporary floor work class will primarily focus on getting your movements onto the floor with fluidity that includes elevations\, inversions and traveling movements that integrate various levels of stretch and elasticity. With a shorter warm up time\, this class will be able to find you different stretch shapes as well as resistance through the use of contemporary floor work. This class will finish with a culmination of choreography adapted from one of Alayna’s Toronto Fringe shows. \nWorkshop Rates: \n1 Workshop – $30 \n2 Workshops – Buy one get one 50% off – $45 \n*All prices are inclusive of HST.  \n\n \n\n\n\n\nAlayna Kellett Workshops\n\n\nOne Workshop $30.00 CADTwo Workshops $45.00 CAD\n\n\n\n\n \n\n  \nInstructor Bio: \nAlayna is a professional dancer\, producer\, choreographer\, adjudicator and model\, having graduated from Ryerson University with a BFA in the Performance: Dance program. As a technically trained dancer\, Alayna is proficient in ballet\, pointe\, jazz\, modern\, contemporary\, lyrical\, musical theatre\, tap and burlesque. \n​During her years of education\, she trained under artists like Nadia Potts\, Rex Harrington\, Roberto Campanella\, Kenny Pearl\,  Allen Kaeja and many more. Alayna trained in BATD\, RAD and ADAPT as well as continuing her own education with programs like C.I. Training\, Progressing Ballet Technique and IDTS. \nRecently\, Alayna has been working on producing films under Von Hunt Productions\, such as ‘In Transit’\, which was featured this year at the Digital Toronto Fringe Festival 2021\, along with a new film projected to start production in 2022. In addition to recent works\, Alayna has performed and choreographed ‘Tales of a Cocktail’ and ‘Anatomy of a Dancer’\, which have been nominated for several Broadway World Awards. \nAlayna has worked as the resident choreographer for companies like Big Soul Productions\, SilverHouse and The Artillery Collective and has choreographed for short and feature films\, which include ‘Something for the Buoys’ (Sapling Productions)\, ‘Bonded’ (Incolour Films)\, ‘West Side Story’ (Bayside Arts & Pinnacle Playhouse)\, Gypsy (Stirling Festival Theatre)\, ‘Hello Again’ (The Artillery Collective) and many more. Alayna’s work has been on stages in productions of HIM International\, Starboyz Productions\, Fever After Dark and The Darling Mansion and has also worked with the companies FujiFilm\, Henry’s\, Apple and Bank of Montreal. Alayna has also been a part of productions for international artists such as Feist\, Joey Stylez and Juice Bar. Additionally\, Alayna has established a residency at a local speakeasy where she regularly performs and choreographs burlesque acts in downtown Toronto\, and has performed in notable venues such as The Royal Conservatory of Music\, The Gardiner Museum\, Roy Thompson Hall and many more.  \nWith Alayna’s experience\, she is a highly sought-after adjudicator that is registered with the Professional Adjudicators Alliance and is always excited to share those experiences and passions with competitors. In Alayna’s 10+ years of teaching experiences\, she has travelled all over Canada and the East Coast to teach\, choreograph and adjudicate\, as well as creating custom pointe and pointe preparation programs\, over-the-top production numbers\, conditioning programs as well as award winning choreography by dance studios across the country. Alayna had also spent 2 years as the Jazz Teacher on staff with In-Studio\, through the National Ballet of Canada.
